Attempts to transfer funds from your account

Wednesday, 12 February 2014 08:35

So possibly not the best start when emailing someone you assume is alive and kicking, or at least in a state where they can open the .zip file you've sent them.

Even if they don't actually bank with you.

But the opening gambit from "Barclays Bank PLC" (is this really from them do you think?) was addressed to Dead Customer.

I checked, I'm not.

And so I read on:

"Dead Customer,
Someone logged into your account today from a different IP other than the one you normally use and have made several attempts to transfer money from your account."

[Good luck with that whoever they may be, as a) I don't have any and b) I don't bank with Barclays]

"Our specialists have noticed immediately and took safety precautions involved.
For your protection, we've suspended your account.
Download the document attached to this email and fill carefully.

[Of course, phew that was close! Thank God your specialists were on the ball and took safety precautions! I'll download it and send you all my bank details immediately]

Does someone in your family have access to your account to transfer funds?

[This would be the account I don't have with Barclays?]

If not, please do not ignore this message is for your protection.

[Finger poised over Delete button]

Note: Please do not respond to emails where you are asked to click on the link
to complete your account details or credit card online.
The bank will ask for this information only through a form attached to the email
and only if there are problems like this.

[Of course they will....]

We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thank you,
Barclays Bank PLC."
